DESIRE, DISICIPLINE AND DELIGHT

Growing up, my parents were always awake between midnight and 4am praying and then we do the family devotion which takes about 30 minutes starting from 6am and then there is the evening devotion between 8 and 9pm. It was pretty much round the clock kinda thing. Given all of this you may think prayer comes easy for me right? Sorry, you are wrong. Did I forget to mention how dad encourages us all to study the bible and pray on our own even before morning devotions? It was prayers round the clock and the consistency is beyond what you can imagine. God has been teaching me so much lately that I cannot compress into one blog post. Recently, I haven’t had time to do my devotions and I wondered how my parents made so much time out of their busy schedules to pray like they do with so much joy and happiness.

So, I am currently taking a Bible course in church and I am almost done but I must say, God has blessed me so much in that bible course beyond my imagination; anyway, I was there and my question got answered: DESIRE, DISCIPLINE AND DELIGHT. It all begins with a little desire to please God, just a little desire to make heaven a number 1 priority then comes a lot of discipline which includes constant studying of the bible, not neglecting the fellowship of believers and continuing to fellowship with the father. It is tough, tougher than it sounds my friends but after the pain and tears of discipline comes delight in the outcome. All this means is that you should keep going, in the storms, pain, tears and weariness of life for joy comes in the morning.

I was listening to one of my favourite preachers of all times Myles Munroe (God rest his soul), he was talking about the soul of man. He said the soul comprises of a man’s will, mind and emotions and that the Soul is the medium between the body and the spirit of man. So, the body wants to sin so bad, it lust after sinful pleasures and gets fed as a man watch TV shows, porn or listen to songs that do not edify the body or even consume substances that we shouldn’t. The soul is then forced to deliver these to the Spirit but not without a confrontation first to the body, The soul then passes unto the Spirit what the body gave. The spirit is Holy and can stand no sin whatsoever, it confronts the soul “this is too filthy the spirit says I do not want this!” The soul assures it that the body provided that, the body then lust for sinful pleasures the more. There is a constant battle for the soul of man, God wants the Soul and the devil wants it too, this is because if the soul is corrupted by the body, it in turn corrupts the Spirit which is what has communion with God because God is Spirit, the only problem is that God is Holy and cannot stand sin so if the spirit of man is with sin, there will be no communion with God. Let us be mindful of what we watch and the songs we listen to. Hands in the air because I am so guilty of this myself. I watch IrokoTV (African movies) a lot and my friend has a problem with that because she hates the mediocre production, acting , and same storyline all the time which is quite true, regrettably.

So, I thought I will give netflix a try and watch Hollywood for a change and boy did I get the change! Few scenes into almost all movies I saw on netflix and this was my observation: no one finishes a sentence without cussing! Maybe not everyone but you get what I mean? The nudity! Lord have mercy! The bad language and all that comes with Hollywood is disturbing! A friend said she practically uses her pillow to cover her face from some scenes and promised herself not to see them again but there is a constant battle and that is why you wish to end something but still go back to it. Now, few days later and a couple of movies down, I was going to church, my friend called to say she was waiting for me, glanced at my watch and discovered I was over late (if there is a word like that), first word that escaped in my thought was the F word, I was processing it to say it out then I realised Oh my! where did I get it from? Netflix movies! Needless to say, I am no more subscribing to netflix so I don’t loose my mind! Let us watch what we let in, you may still watch netflix but please select your movies wisely.

My parents never let us listen to any music that is not gospel and today I am able to see the big difference between raising my hands before God and waving hands in the air as Beyonce sings, shall I just add, I knew Beyonce only in 2012 in a movie. Heard a lot about her and to this day, I know she is a musician but I don’t know any of her songs! It is just my opinion, any songs talking S*x, Bi*tches, N**gas this n**gas that, I don’t listen to them. For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks Luke 6:45. For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he Proverbs 23:7 KJV. Again, if you know all the lyrics of Rihanna’s songs including latest realises and history, but do not know the Lord’s prayer, Books of the Bible etc, ask yourself and be honest, who am I living for? To whom will I give account?

God bless you and see you soon.
