WHY WISH UPON A STAR?

How I wore it months ago

Hello there! It’s really lovely posting on here again after a week as it is the custom. As usual, I am here again with an exciting story today.

It was the year 2011, the ushers passed envelopes to people pew by pew as the church secretary made an announcement; “these envelopes passed to you by the ushers will be used next Sunday as we need money to rebuild the kids auditorium” Some collected the envelope, some didn’t (It wasn’t compulsory of course). As the usher got closer to me I thought to myself “If only I had about a thousand Naira, I would pledge it but for now I will just take the envelope anyway”. You see in my family just like every other Nigerian family (I think) dad gives everyone money for offering before we leave the house Sunday morning and he packages His and his tithe where applicable and mum does same. For building projects however, he might just give the money direct to the church on behalf of the family. Something was different about this one, I really wanted to give from my pocket as the King David said in 2 Samuel 24:24 “But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them”.

In the middle of the week I was in our store and a retiree came to buy something, I was sat outside while mum attended to Him. Now, our store is located in one of the busiest streets in town so a lot was going on that day. Quickly I noticed something unusual, a man was forcing his was into the retiree’s car and he kept struggling to open it then I screamed; people gathered and the man who had an accomplice on standby on a motorbike took off. The Old man thanked me profusely and left.

Moments later I came back as I stepped out to get something and my sister said the old man came back and told them that he got his pension from the bank, it wasn’t a lot of money but he was paid in small denominations so he had to use a bag. That was what the men wanted out of his car! He then left a thousand Naira and said to my sister “Take this, if my daughter(me) comes back give her this, she really helped me”. I was moved knowing I helped him given he was depending wholly on his pension.

I got home that evening and I heard God say to me “I heard your wish and sent you the money” I was like what Money Lord? And he reminded me of the thought I had on Sunday and how he provided me the exact amount I wished for. Quickly I put the money in the envelope I got from church and dropped it in church the next Sunday.

I need you to understand that I didn’t pray, I only wished. God does not only listen to the prayers of His children, he listens to our complains and wishes too. Careful what you wish for and please complain with less negative words like “I am a failure/fool”, “No one made it in my family and I think I may fail too” and any other negativity, keep away from negative people.

God knows the desires of our hearts but that doesn’t mean we should not pray. I know you are wondering why God will take from the little the man had to provide for me to give back to Him? Well, tragedy was about to strike, if I hadn’t seen those boys and screamed, the whole money would have been lost. The old man was excited and kept thanking God. If it didn’t work out this way God would still have provided through another means. Moreover, I kept wondering since that day why he had to go and come back to thank me again. Why didn’t he just leave and not come back since he already thanked me? Why come back and then present me a gift of the exact amount I wished for? I haven’t seen Him since 2011 but I know God knows why he put upon His heart that amount of money. One thousand Naira is not a lot of money at all, I was just broke and didn’t want to ask my parents but why I wanted to give one thousand, I do not know.

So today I challenge you, why wish upon a star when you serve the creator of stars? Speak to Him today, He listens!
